2018 Action Plan
Two projects are proposed:
- Drinking water supply for the population of KIBUMBA / NYIRAGONGO in the province of North Kivu.
The population of NYIRAGONGO territory has been facing a shortage of drinking water for decades. This is due to the non-existence of rivers on its extent; especially KIBUMBA 27 km from the city of Goma.
This scarcity of drinking water has a negative impact on the way of life of the population of this environment and makes the task of the peasant woman and small children difficult or even inhuman. Housework (cooking food, laundry, dishes, shower, and other misdeeds of this scarcity) that are exclusively daily activities specific to the African woman according to the ancestral culture, become very burdensome to the normal life of the woman and the girl from the above-mentioned territory who are at risk of rape and sexual violence with inadequate consequences for STIs and HIV / AIDS. The search for creek water is 15km crossing the Virunga National Park to RUGARI. There are torrents, bananas and swamps at 10km crossing the border in the forests of the Republic of Rwanda, for which the water is not drinkable. To this is added the activities of the local brewery which also require drinking water while in certain corners of the territory of NYIRAGONGO, the phytosanitary treatment requires the availability of water.
The major question is to find this rare but essential material for the life of humanity because it is said that water is life. Its value lies especially with the poor women and girls peasant marginalized by traditional cultures and customs that deprive them of their rights of enjoyment in the distribution of household chores with their spouses as at least those living in urban centers and elsewhere where the Western civilization is increasing overnight. So, since there are no waterways, we have opted to build public drinking water wells that we must conserve and feed every day.
However, KIBUMBA counts 9 localities which count in 6291 families. With the field study, we found that each family will get water at least 100L per day; and to make it easier for them, we will build a well for 3 localities ie 210 families, therefore 3 wells for 9 localities. From where all the families, that is to say the 6291, must consume 629m3 per day.
These photos show how the population of KIBUMBA gets rainwater from the gutters connected to the roofs of their houses. These gutters bring rainwater to the dug wells, others built in boards covered by sheets or tarpaulins and few others are built of cement for water to drink. To wash clothes, people use stagnant water from the rain.
- ASSISTANCE TO FIRE VICTIMS IN MUBI / WALIKALE IN SEMI-SUSTAINABLE SHELTER, North Kivu province.
MUBI, is a commercial center located in the territory of WALIKALE, WANIANGA sector, grouping of ITUNDA, of the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo; experienced a fire caused by fire due to inattention of a mother who went to sleep forgetting her pan of food on a blazing fire and was carried away by a deep sleep. She was thinking of setting up for the next day but alas because it caused a fire explosion whose loss is 900 households of MUBI shopping center that are now unrecoverable.
However, more than 900 families lost their homes and belongings. It should be noted that the event ran from just 23:00 until 5:00 in the morning from which there was no house at MUBI; this fire caused three loss of human lives (see image in this project); Currently, these families are exposed to any kind of risk without shelter and without any assistance from the humanitarian organizations or the government.
While observing this miserable situation, UFFT vzw looked for ways to intervene after going to the scene of the fire, but it was in front of an obstacle seen the multitude of families already in need of assistance. This is how it presents this problem to local and international organizations in good faith to help those families who are within the reach of the various climate hazards with a probability
risks of different diseases that may require other health costs in case there is no assistance.
MUBI FIRE JULY 02, 2017 FROM 11 PM TO 5 PM IN THE MORNING
